Every published community is listed. A check older than 30 days is marked “recheck needed”. A full community stays listed, because an owner may resell or an expansion may open.

    A cabin-only resort at 6,700 feet in the pines at Heber-Overgaard in the White Mountains of Arizona, about two and a half hours from Phoenix. A resident owns a 400 square foot park model cabin and leases the site under it; the operator markets it as a weekend getaway that can be let out short term.

  • Takoma Village Cohousing

    DC

    The only cohousing community in Washington DC: forty-three owned townhouses and flats around a green and a paved piazza, a mile or so from the Maryland line. A common house of nearly four thousand square feet holds the dining room and kitchen where the community eats together several times a week, along with a workshop, a laundry and a shared office. Raised beds grow herbs and vegetables, and decisions are made by consensus.
